Lolita blog Carnival: Five books every lolita should read

Kamikaze girls by Novala Takemoto

This book is on my list simply because it is the lolita book. Novala has a great writing style and the characters are very likable. To me this book taugth  lot about what lolita is all about and I absolutely love it. If you haven't read it yet please, go do it now. And then remember to watch the movie too.

The little princess by Francis H. Burnett

Little princess is such a charming tale about how good behaviour and kindness can triumph over almost anything. Sara's characer has charmed readers for generations and of all ages. It truly is classic that everyone, not just lolitas should read.

The queen of fashion- what Marie Antoinette wore to the revolution by Caroline Weber

Now, this is in a way a biography but it is a lovely one and a must read for outfit inspiration and othervise too. After all Marie Antoinette is such an icon in the loli world that knowing more about her fashion choices should be interesting.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Oh look another classic. Well personally I find classic literature very inspiring and Jane Eyre is one of the most inspiring among them. It is a very traditional novel as it has three stages but it only adds to it's charm.

It's vintage Darling by Christa Weil

Okay this is the odd one here. Yes it's about another fashion style and yes it has nothing to do with lolita. BUT it has a lot to do with clothing making it supremely useful. Need to get a tea stain out of you 300 euro dress? This book tells you how. Want some vintage flair to your wardrobe? Go no further, this one will help you with that too. It has everything from telling fabrics apart to cleaning many kinds of different stains and history of 20th century fashion. Trust me it's positively unputdownable.

Chocolate Christmas!

Last Sunday the lovely Mari hosted a chocolate themed Christmas party. We had a winter picnic on her living room floor which was very enjoyable.

As usual we had lovely food. Mari asked us to bring things that could be dipped to chocolate and we followed her suggestion. I made some sugar cake and cut it to pieces for easier dip.

Here is our group. On the upper line myself (lurking as always) Mari and Tiia. On the lower one Serina, Susanna, Sanni and Kata.

Sleeping lolitas.

Here is my outfit:

Headbow and belt: Made them myself
Blouse: Consignement find
Dress: Juliette & Justine
Bag: Innocent world
Tigths: Lindex
Shoes: Offbrand.

Here's me and Sanni heading home.

My Teaset: Pearlecent teapot

I don't know much about this teapot as I cannot identify the stamp on it. I got it from my boyfriend as a graduation present. He purchased it from an antiques shop and it was suggested that it is Russian. I will never part with it as it holds many fond memories.

I very much like the shape of this pot. It is very elegant and the lid has very nice ruffley thingy around it. The shape is very balanced in my opinion. The handle and the spout are porpotioned very nicely and give balance to each other.

The pot has a nice dark brown floral patterned which is rather abstract. It has been painted under the pearlacent glazing. The glaze gives the pot an unique and charming look.

The pot's handle curves rather elegantly and it has a brown accent to make the curve stand out. I do love the twist on the top part of the handle, it gives the elegant pot some much needed detail.

The little swirl is echoed  in the spout, giving the pot some nice symmetry. The spout is short and has some girth. The spout is also lined with dark brown to make the tip of it stand out.

The lid of the pot is nicely waisted. It once fell to the floor so we had glue it back together but the lines fit in quite nicely.  The tip of the lid is again dark brown giving the pot a cohesive look.

Here is the stamp of the pot but as I said I have no idea where it is from. If some of my readers migth know more about this stamp I would be glad to hear of it. The mystery of this pot has plagued me for years and I hope I can someday solve it.

Daily outfit vol. 1300

Today me and a few girls of the Lahti community visited the Lahti Christmas village. It was lovely... if you don't count weather.  We somehow manage to get pictured with Santa Claus. The children were quite excited about the cute Barbies.

I wore:

Hat, bag, shirt: vintage
Cardigan: H&M
Dress: Juliette & Justine ( I wore it because it reminds snow flakes.)
Socks: Random wool tigths
Shoes: Wonders

My silly face.

And my nails.

Lolita blog carnival: Favorite dress.

I actually have may favorite dresses, but decided to show one of my one pieces, because I think one piece is the most handy type of dress. I picked the charming Innocent world dress I wear notoriously often.

Click for a larger view
So why this one? It's such a classic type of a dress. A white collar combined with any colour is the same sort of classic lolita item as the baby heart bag or Vivienne westwood rocking horse shoes. I personally could get more dresses in this sort of cut because it is so lovely. One where the main fabric is velvet would be especially lovely.

Here is the collar of the dress. The pearly buttons are functional and I just adore the intricate laces and pintucks of it. They give the dress some much needed detail. For some reason the collar part doesn't continue to the back of the dress but I love it anyway.

The cuffs feature the same lace as the collar, just in black. I love how the lace goes around the cuff and the button split. As in the collar these buttons too are functional.

The hem laces are simply gorgeous. The wider one is a lovely tulle broderie and the upper is a beutifull venetian. Between them is a cute ruffle that again adds a bit of detail.

Latest adwenture of this dress has been when my good friend Sanni took picture of me for her school work. She used a huge old camera which was lovely indeed.

Christmas party outfit ideas

It's again that time of the year when everyone (and everything) in Finland is hosting Christmas parties. I assume that this is the case in other countries too, so here is some ideas for lolita Christmas looks.

This first one is one of those sort of parties that you invited a couple of friends over for spicy glög and gazing to the fireplace. You cozy up in the sofa while the snow comes down outside blanketing the landscape with soft white... So I equipped this look with a warm scarf and slippers to make it appear cozy in victorian style.

This next one is suited for a fancier getogether, maybe a nice cocktail party or a fancy family dinner, maybe in a nice restaurant. As you can see everything in this look has bows to mimic the beutiful ribbons of Christmas presents.

Christmas Carrol!

Lastly I got inspired by Christmas Carolers, so tartan was a must. This could work on a party with a small outing (considering the weather of course) as I added some fur accesseriosand sturdy tigths and boots.

I hope this post has inspired you to dress up on Christmas. It makes the season even more festive. I would love to hear what you are planning on wearing during the holidays. Until next time!

Royal unicorns at Ofelia market

Today I attended the lovely Ofelia market which is a trade fair for quirky styles here in Finland! The lovely lady above is Essi from Essin maailma, which is the place for cake jewlery and othr quirky things in life (like that epic shoe headband).

Here is what I wore.

Headband: Bijou Brigitte
Shirt: Seppälä by Paola Suhonen (loan from Mari)
Dress: Hand made by me ( I call it the Unicornia Regalia dress)
Tights: Sokos
Shoes: Wonders

I painted my nails to match the dress.

As you can see I made this dress for Mari too and so we twinned. Also note the epic Unicorn horns, by Essin maailma.

And more Unicorn horns!

Here is the lovely people we hung around with. Lovely Shoeshinee, darling Elfie and her adorable Hubby.

I believe heartily that sooner or later everyone ends up at The Ounce.

Lolita blog carnival: Things that inspire me

I actually have a lot of things that inspire me that I have mentioned before. Long time readers will remember vampires, especially the ladies from vampire films, fairytales and history, especially the victorian era. And of course I am still into macabre details. I mean come on even my most classic outfit had a skull as headwear. This year I have added to the mix some medival and reneissance motifs.

Most of my style inspiration comes from around me. For example rigth now I am very inspired by Christmas and winter. I sort of like to match the time and the occasion.

When it comes to style idols I don't really have one. There are amazing lolitas all over the world who's style I like but I can't name one to be my idol. I have said before that I really admire the styles of my friends but can't see myself emulating their look.
Role models are a different book all together. My biggest role model is still my grand mother, for she is a very classy lady. I can only strive to be as wonderful as she is.

Personally I feel that inspiration can come from anything. It can come from looking at other lolitas and their wonderful looks, it comes from the world around you, from history, art and from your friends. I love lolita and that love will always inspire me.

If you are interested in the lolita blog carnival here is our facebook group. We always vote for a weekly theme and they have always been quite interesting so join! I must also say that it is a great way to find new things to read as different lolita bloggers join in!
